TREFOIL

Ancient tunes fill the room and touch the hearts as Trefoil, a high-energy trio, plays traditional and contemporary music from Ireland, England, Scotland, Brittany, and the US.

A solid guitar backs uilleann - or Irish, pipes - wooden flute, whistles, and button accordion. The group features Carol Skallerud, Jill Groth, and Jim Groth - all vocalists as well.

Carol Skallerud has been active in music since the early 1970s. Her love of the wooden flute has taken Carol to festivals in South Dakota, Boston and Canada for performances and workshops with musicians from around the world. In addition to flute, Carol plays button accordion and low whistle.

Jill Groth plays uilleann pipes, tin whistle, and low whistle. She has performed around South Dakota for the SDAC Touring Arts Program in the Irish group Slainte and has played Irish music for countless events and occasions. Jill has also been involved in many workshops and festivals. The only Irish piper in South Dakota, Jill travels to other parts of the country to study with master pipers.

Jim Groth plays both acoustic and electric guitar. He has logged hundreds of hours in the recording studio and his original songs have been published and recorded by other artists. Featured numerous times through the years on South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Jim is currently a regular on the Rock Garden Tour of SDPB radio.

Trefoil performs for concerts, festivals, pub gigs, weddings, private parties, and ceilis —Irish dances.

Fee structure: $600-$850. Trefoil will do one-hour a demonstration/workshop coinciding with the performance and including all three band members may be arranged for $150.

Technical Requirements: The band requires main sound with one or two monitors, one direct box, five microphones and stands, and three armless chairs. If Trefoil provides sound, the fee is $100.
