Allison Hedge Coke

Allison Hedge Coke is a writer and poet whose work has been praised by readers and critics alike. Her books include Dog Road Woman (published by Coffee House Press, 1997), for which she won an American Book Award; The Year of the Rat (Grimes Press, 2000); Rock, Ghost, Willow, Deer (University of Nebraska Press, 2004), which was selected as an AIROS Book-of-the Month; Off-Season City Pipe (Coffee House Press, 2005) and Blood Run (Salt Publications, UK 2006-US 2007), both of which earned her the Wordcraft Writer of the Year for Poetry honors. In addition, she has authored a full-length play (Icicles) and numerous monologues, has edited five additional collections, and is editing two book series of emerging Indigenous writing.
Allison has been an invitational performer in international poetry festivals in Medellin, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Canada, and Jordan and a visiting foreign professional in poetry and writing for Shandong University in Wei Hai, China. She currently holds the Distinguished Paul W. Reynolds and Clarice Kingston Reynolds Endowed Chair in Poetry as an associate professor of poetry and writing at the University of Nebraska, Kearney, where she directs the Reynolds Reading Series and Sandhill Crane Migration Retreat. She is core faculty in the University of Nebraska MFA Program and a 2008 Paul Hanly Furfey Endowed Lecturer.
Allison has been awarded several national, state, and regional artistic and literary grants, fellowships, and tours and has served on numerous state, community, and national boards in the arts. She was a delegate to the United Nations Women in Peacemaking Conference and has been a United Nations Presenting Speaker. She came of age working fields, waters, and working in factories.
In addition to reading from her many publications, Allison’s touring arts program can include poetry seminars and writing workshops.
Fee structure: $1,500 - $3,500; Workshops and master classes are offered at $1000 with the expectation a reading performance will also take place. Other residencies may be negotiated as well.
