Eliza Blue
Eliza Blue is an educator, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with strong roots in American Folk Music. In her workshops, she uses traditional folk instruments and music as a jumping-off point for students to develop their own musical voice.
She believes music belongs to all of us and an active involvement in music builds the foundation for a lifetime of participation in and enjoyment of one’s own creativity, as well as an appreciation of music in general.
In her workshops, Eliza uses familiar tunes and themes as a place to start. Her main objective is to help students of all ages respond to the inspirations in their own environment and to introduce them to some of the wide range of voicings (both instrumental and with their own vocal instrument) available through musical expression. Students will have the opportunity to begin, or to continue, a relationship with music through experiences in singing, moving, listening, playing instruments, and writing lyrics.
Workshops include 1.) Introduction of basic musical concepts: intonation; building chord progressions to follow a simple melody; establishing a time signature. 2.) Introduction to some of the instruments used in American folk music: banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin. 3.) Begin – or continue – a personal and creative relationship with music; extending and expanding on the first two lessons through creative writing and improvisation exercises
Eliza has toured, taught and performed all over world. She has played shows in concert halls and backyards, and has taught music to all ages of individuals - new moms and infants, toddlers and big kids, grandmas and grandpas.
